Let’s get started

Here I will be posting about my year as a tailor apprentice.
When this blog starts I’m heading back to my spot at Skräddarns hus in Gothenburg Sweden.
Behind me I have 3 years of high school, textile fashion program  and lots of pattern making.
2 years at the Cutters Academy in Gothenburg specialization historic clothing and clothes for theater.
Apprenticeships and scholarships from the Polish Opera in Warszawa as well as theaters in Sweden.
I also have training in art, historical interior design and historical clothing and have my own studio in Gothenburg where I take on bespoke tailoring. I have also been working as a seamstress and costume designer for theaters and movies.

I am very capable of making clothes but my goal with this year as a tailor apprentice is to gain a
greater knowledge about different technics, material and over all how to make a perfectly tailored suit. Something I’m not too comfortable with as I mostly do women’s clothes. Mens clothes bear a whole different kind of tailoring. How do you do when no darts are allowed and all you basically have to work with are straight cut pieces with just an ever so slight curve?

So far I have been a tailors apprentice for 3 months. During this time I have been making two suits in solid seizes. This to get familiar with all the different techniques and materials used to construct a fully tailored suit. And let me tell you, there is a lot of work behind each tailored suit! And that’s mostly what I’m so keen on, all the work behind and secrets tailors have in the construction of the making of a perfect suit that won’t be noticeable to the wearer or anyone else looking at the suit.
So let’s begin exploring tailoring!
