Our littel gang at 2013 summer scholarship give out by Företagarna.
I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart everyone who has given me a scholarship this past year! Being a tailors apprentice in Sweden is not easy or cheap. I do not get an apprentice salary and I fund my education with a student loan. I also pay for all the material used. Keep in mind I work with exclusive fabrics so one suit cost me around $260 – $430. Quite sad to think about when most of them are made as a test suit in standard size no one will wear. Totally I will have sewn 7 complete suits and a lot of details like the frock front, side pockets and a buttonhole a day the last weeks. All funded by me down to thread and needles.
I would therefore like to thank all the funds who have believed in me and chosen me from all of the applicants they have received. Your funding really has made a difference in me being able to take time off from my studio to focus on getting my tailors diploma. I have not had to live on water and bread and I have not cried every time I’ve had to buy material which I probably would have otherwise.
I couple of weeks into my education I was getting headaches so I went to an optician and my assumption was right, I needed glasses.
So thank you Företagarna and Gustav och Thorhild Hammars stiftelse. With your fund I bought a pair of glasses and a tailoring sheer, things I use every day in my work as a tailor.
I would also like to thank Fabrikör JL Eklunds stiftelse and tekostipendier who also granted me a fund. Your money has mostly gone to material costs.
Funds are really a great resource when pursuing your dreams and goals. A fund can make it possible. If I were not granted my funds I would probably have had to add another year in my education as I would have needed time to work along my studies not having the time or energy to finish them.
So seek out funds, there really are plenty to choose from and even though it’s hard work finding the right one for what you would like to do and to write a good application with all the papers that follow it can be so worth it!
