Happy New Year!

This year so many things will happen.
I will be a finished apprentice in 3 months! Yikes! That means I will be on my own feet again working in my studio with clients. Luckily I already have 2 -3 in line and a request for more retro swimsuits to be sold in the summer. Actually I have so much to take care of when I get back in my studio that maybe I should take on a trainee? 😀
But before I can let myself get lost in the planning to come I have to finish getting my tailors diploma.

This year I will only make standard size suits. One where I clock myself to see which areas I need to improve to reach the goal 50 h or less for a fully tailored suit.
One test suit to see how the material handles and to work everything through.
And my exam suit in the same material as the test suit which will be sent in for evaluation in august and hopefully, holding my fingers crossed, I will get my diploma.
I also have to make a tail coat front in silk facing. This because silk facing is an extremely hard material to handle as it wants to dissolve into threads after cutting it and the pointy tips are hard to do. An examination test to see how well one handles such a lovely material.

I am now two and a half day in on my first suit and things are not looking all that bad.
I have done all of the pockets (side, breast & inner pockets) stitched together the canvas, pressed a shape in the chest area of the canvas and outer layer and then basted them together.
But the worst things are yet to come (after side pockets). Putting the stay tape in front (always takes to long for me to get bother sides mirroring) and the lapel roll line that need to roll perfectly to the first button. Some times this has taken me two days. On some occasions the roll line has been perfect then let be for the weekend and then after vacation it has been wrong! This after 4 people checking it and giving it the OK stamp. One of the most nerve wrecking moments for me.
For this suit I’m working with a airy green wool from a Norwegian company called Skaar tekstil. Quite a nice change after working with super thin materials for Roberts two grey suits.

I also changed my hair color. I LOVED the purple but I was a bit tired of maintenance and the ends looked sad so now I have a healthy haircut that is easy to work with. I call it my employment friendly haircut as I will be looking for a job as well when I finish.

Let 2014 be the year where goals and dreams come true <3
